What made you choose Qomply?

I discovered this opportunity through the King's Career Centre, and as I read through the job description, I realised it was an excellent fit for someone like me with a background in data and a keen interest in entering the financial industry. I went through all the blog posts from previous interns and was excited to find that many alumni had also been part of the programme.

What attracted me even more was the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across the entire software development lifecycle, including front-end, back-end, database management, and cloud technology, skills I have been eager to develop. The in-person interview gave me the chance to meet the team, and their warmth and approachability made me even more eager to join Qomply.

How has your coding journey led you to fintech?

I studied Software Engineering during my undergraduate degree, where I learnt key concepts such as object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and operating systems. Afterward, I pursued a Master's degree in Informatics at King's College London to further explore the intersection of data and technology.

In my spare time, I frequently attended tech and finance talks and enrolled in courses on platforms like Coursera and Forage. These experiences sparked my growing interest in fintech and gradually guided me toward Qomply, where I could merge my passion for technology and finance.

What have you learnt during the internship so far?

In the first few weeks, I started by working on unit tests, which gave me a great opportunity to dive deeper into financial concepts and apply the theoretical knowledge I gained during my studies in a practical, real-world setting. I have been becoming more proficient with tools like Git and have been working closely with my team through peer programming, gaining an understanding of how different departments operate.

I’ve also had the chance to get involved in various aspects of the business beyond coding, such as helping Charlotte organise Qomply events and learning from Sophia about transaction reporting reviews. These experiences have given me a broader understanding of how financial institutions function, who our clients are, and how my code can better serve both our clients and other departments.

What is your favourite part of the internship?

I absolutely love all my colleagues! From my first week, I was welcomed with a team lunch where everyone was incredibly friendly, showing me around and introducing me to the local street food. My senior team members have been fantastic mentors, providing detailed guidance whenever I needed it.

I also really enjoy Qomply’s 'Nothing Bad Happens Friday' culture, where we can wrap up the week early if everything is on track. This balance between a productive, focused work environment and a friendly, inclusive atmosphere has been making Qomply a fantastic place to learn and grow.
